Dr. David Perl

Visiting Global Speaker
Dr. David Perl is one of the UK's leading specialists in helping businesses and individuals manage crises. Over the years David has worked as hospital physician, GP, aeromedical practitioner, built one of the first crisis management practices in the UK and more latterly is training to be a psychotherapist. During this time he has counselled people and organisations in managing the most intense of situations.
David's entrepreneurial skills were evident at a young age. At the age of seven he was caught trying to sell free leaflets door to door for thrupenny bits (two pence in new money). During his gap year David worked his way up in retail (shoes and hifi) and within a few months at the age of 18 was offered the job of managing the UK's first dedicated Video camera shop. The lure of medical school was greater and in 1984 he qualified from St Thomas's Hospital, University of London.
David spent the next few years working as a hospital doctor, including time in psychiatry and then as a GP. During this time he also trained as a hypnotherapist. This was followed by a move into Medical Assistance where for 10 years he travelled the world repatriating sick and injured travellers. During this time he undertook over 700 repatriations from more than 80 countries.
During this time David witnessed first-hand the aftermath from such crises as coach crashes, fires, floods and fatal accidents. Recognising that many companies were ill equipped to handle these events he set up docleaf in 1998 to help organisations with the resources and expertise to prepare for and manage these situations. Since that time, docleaf has grown to provide a range of human focussed crisis management and psychological support services. For more on docleaf see www.docleaf.com
It was whilst running docleaf that David developed an interest in human behaviour and recognised in himself behaviours that were self-limiting. One particular event, a flash flood in Switzerland resulting in the loss of 21 your lives led him on a journey of self-discovery. Over the next 12 years he explored various forms of self-development including Neuro Linguistic Programming, fire walking on a Tony Robbins seminar, coaching and reading dozens of self-development books. Three years ago David entered into psychotherapy as none of the mentioned strategies seemed to effect lasting change. Working with his current therapist, David was so impressed by the changes he underwent, he decided to undergo his own training to be a psychotherapist. He is currently part way through a 4 year diploma course.
David has started to incorporate his leanings into what docleaf provides. His company is now offering round the clock discreet and confidential support for stressed senior executives, complemented by residential courses where more intense support is required. His longer term aim is to develop a dedicated residential centre that will combine 5 star luxury with dedicated treatments and therapy to help those at the top of their game cope with life's challenges.
When David is not working he indulges in his passions of aviation. He recently obtained his Private Pilot's Licence and is building his own aircraft which one day he intends to fly around the world. He continues with his passion for travelling, having visited over 90 countries and counting. He also works on how to live more consciously and to be a more attentive husband to his wife of 25 years and father to his two teenage daughters.
